At this point in time, I’d have to say that the Our Island Exhibition – 我們的島嶼展覽 – A Photography Exhibition held by TEPC to honor and support Father Moal’s charitable work in Yuli is likely the biggest event I have ever been a part of. My role has varied through the year that we spent in planning but encompasses a number of skills that I seem to have.

Website Creation, Management & Development

The website was created in early January 2019 with the intent of making a space on the net that encapsulated our ethos. It has been a challenging build for a number of reasons, each of which we managed to overcome.

The scale of the site is surprising: the portfolio of 21 photographers’ images, bios and a contact store. It essentially expanded to hosting updates for some of the events we created and a regular blog with news and over 100 individual postings. Content was supplied by TEPC members, created by me, or republished with permission.

Challenges, of course, flared up, like an attempted hacking of the site; being banned from Facebook, which we finally reversed; and dealing with expected unexpected small fires during the organization period.

The site has survived and thrived despite everything, even though we did not do much SEO. Now it is pushing over 4,400 page views in the month upto and including the first week of the exhibition. Much of the traffic is organic or from Facebook.

But this decision to be responsible for the website led me to the following tasks:

a. Event Creation and Management

1. Photowalk organization and promotion
2. Photography competition and promotion

b. Social Media Marketing

1. Website’s regular blog posting schedule
2. Facebook page management, and outreach to other groups

c. News Building

1. Article writing: Feature article in Community Centered, plus Photowalk Announcement
2. Media Outreach to several local news resources with a very high positive response rate
3. Online Link Building through advertising the events on Accupass and on Photography sites

It has been a challenge to do so many tasks in such a short space of time, but the support of the team members has been extraordinary, especially with help in translation. Together, we’ve managed to put together an incredible exhibition with positive feedback from almost everyone that we have come into contact with. We all believe we will a significant impact with this exhibition.
